So you’ve heard about pickleball and want to give it a shot—but where do you start? Whether you’re totally new to the sport or just want a refresher, this guide will walk you through everything you need to know before hitting the court at Paddle Up.
🏓 What is Pickleball?
Pickleball is a fast-growing sport that combines elements of tennis, badminton, and ping-pong. It’s played on a smaller court with a lightweight paddle and a perforated plastic ball. The pace is dynamic, the rules are easy to pick up, and the vibe is fun and social.
🎒 What Should You Bring?
We’ve made it easy for beginners to get started.
Clothing: Comfortable, breathable sportswear and non-marking court shoes are recommended for safety and comfort.
Paddles: Don’t have one yet? No problem! You can rent a paddle from us, or if you’re ready to commit, purchase your own for RM150 at the counter.
Balls: You’ll need to buy your own ball, which we also sell at the venue.

🏟️ Understanding the Court
Pickleball courts are smaller than tennis courts and include:
- Baseline (back line)
- Service Areas (left/right sides)
- Non-Volley Zone or “The Kitchen” (area close to the net)
If it sounds confusing, don’t worry—our staff is always available to explain the layout and rules.
👯♂️ Can You Play Alone?
You can book a court for solo practice, but pickleball is usually played in doubles (2 vs 2). If you’re coming alone, let us know—we’ll try to pair you with other players of a similar level.
